Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" Noisy DVD

I've just bought a MacBook Pro 13.3" 1 month ago. After several hours of working hour doing some musical stuff on my MacBook Pro, I've nosticed that there are something odd with the DVD slot. The MacBook 13.3" DVD slot make a very annoying noise when you insert a disc into it. This problem couldn't because the dvd drive is dusty or not clean, because...man it's only a month old!

Anyway the MacBook Pro 13.3" performance itself still great for doing some mobile work...

I used to have my 12" powerbook G4 for doing some business project or presentation...It's great powerfull computer and also have a very attractive shape...and simple, but the most important thing is that it has the smallest size on the Powerbook range...
Time change and so the technology right? I think it's now the right time to have a new Powerbook...but there's no 12" MacBook Pro on the market...only a 13.1...Yeah I know it's only 1.1" but somehow it does matter for me...I still hoping that Apple will make a new 12" notebook for the next MacBook Pro model...

wow...it's been a long time since my last posting on this blog...well i've been doing some real life project...and train my character on Pirate King Online, which is only level 65 now...
As you know i've sold my Dell Latitude D620 because of some reasons...yes it was a very wonderful computer, but after I use it then I realize it's to big for me...14.1" is just to big...it makes my shoulder hurt when I bring it on my business trip and so i've decided to buy (going to buy acctualy) the Lenove Thinkpad X61...that very beautiful yet powerfull ultraportable notebook...
I'm still looking for the right store who give a realy good price...I wish I live in the US...they sell the Thinkpad X61 for only US$ 1.030!!! here in my country the Thinkpad X61 is sold for US$ 1.720 (the best price I've see on the Indonesian market)...the US$ 700 spread is realy big ammount for me...considering I can get an extra X60 Ultrabay and another Lenovo external Display...well wish me luck ya all...

Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Edit.
Edit BOOT.INI. Add "/SOS" right after "/fastdetect" with a space between. The line will look something like this: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /SOS.

When you're finished. The first part, multi(0)..... may not be the same on your machine. Upon restarting, the splash screen will be gone. If you have done with this you can be re-enabled by removing the new switch.

I've just bought Latitude D620 laptop from Dell which offers a 14.1-inch widescreen display, 1GB of DDR2 main memory, 80GB of hard drive, and of course, Intel^® Core^TM 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.00GHz,4MB L2 Cache, 667Mhz FSB).

The Intel GMA 950 128 mb works great for running 3D games, and also the Intel^® Pro/Wireless 3945 WiFi 802.1a/g can give us great experience to play MMORPG or just to browse the internet wirelessly

The optical drive sometimes sounds a little bit noisy. I've got the 9 cells battery so i can run approximately 4 hours with the display brightness set to high, wifi on, and a USB optical mouse plug in. The biometric log in password give me a very high security to my private data.

Weights 4.37lbs, Dell Latitude D520 laptop is pre-loaded with either Windows XP pro sp 2 or Windows Vista (32/64-bit) operating system. It's good for road warrior or for desktop replacement at home (with docking solutions).

How To Hide Your Folder in Windows XP

Here's some guide to hide your personal folder on your Windows XP computer:

Make a new folder on the root drive (eg. C:>), do this to avoid the common placement of personal folder on My Document folder.
Now that you have your folder created in a strange location and your files stored in that folder, we can make it hidden. Setting a folder to Hidden in Windows XP is simply changing one of the properties of the folder, i.e. 0 means not hidden and 1 means hidden. Windows Explorer reads this property and appropriately shows or hides the folder. However, there is an option in Windows Explorer called “Show hidden files and folders” that will display all folders no matter what the hidden property value is set to.
We need to change that setting so that hidden files and folders are not to be shown. In order to do this, click on My Computer from your desktop and from the menu click on Tools and then Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and under the Hidden Files and Folders section, choose the radio button that says “Do not show hidden files and folders”.
Click OK to save the changes. Usually this option is already set by default to hide files and folders, but it’s good to check anyway just to make sure. Ok, now to hide the folder itself, go into the folder that has the folder you want to hide, right-click on it and choose Properties.
On the General tab, check the box in the Attributes section named Hidden.
Click OK and your folder should no longer be visible in the current window you have open. It’s hidden and you won’t be able to see it unless you do the same procedure as mentioned above and change the option back to Show Hidden Files and Folders. Now if you want to save anything into the hidden folder, you could un-hide it and then save the file and then re-hide it, but that’s really not necessary.

In order to save a file to a hidden folder, all you need to do is specify the entire path in the File Name box. Fox example, if you’re saving a Word document, you could save the files to the hidden folder by typing in C:\Program Files\Secret\filename.doc and click Save.

And that’s it! A very simple and easy way to hide a folder that will probably work on most people unless they are computer geeks!!

How To Disable Online Drivers Search

The required driver is missing when you are installing a device. Windows XP Prompts you to go online and search for the driver using Windows Updates. However, experience tell you that is absolutely useless and will only be adding to your hassle.

Usually a driver is included on a CD provided with the device you have purchased. If this is not the case for some reason, you can always download the software from the device manufacturer's website. Why not disable the unnecessary request to search for drivers when you can install them much faster yourself.

The Go to : "Start > Run" and type "gpedit.msc"(without quotes) and navigate to:

Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System

Section on the left pane of the window. Now choose and double click on "Turn off Windows Update device driver search prompt". In the window that appears, chosse "Disable" and apply the settings.

Dell has said it wants to be the greenest technology company. Apple is angling for a little green cred. IBM, Panasonic, Sun Microsystems: Same story.

Whether it was because they got eco-religion or got burned by bad publicity, technology companies are seeing the light and walking toward it.

Electronics are filled with potentially noxious elements — mercury, lead, polyvinyl chloride — and Moore’s Law says most computers are outdated within a year or two, making high tech products in a disposable class by themselves. How to keep the toxic ingredients from leaching into the air and water, and recycle those parts that can be salvaged has been an ongoing problem, one a range of companies is now aiming to solve.

To that end, Dell has scheduled an announcement Thursday about its “environmentally-responsible product recovery and recycling program” and the results of a survey detailing just what happens to its computers at the end of their lives. In June it announced its intention to become “the greenest” tech company.

That’s a distinction that many will vie for — and that competition is as important as the drive toward the next faster microchip.

Last week, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History added to its growing collection of computers a 1985 Dell Limited computer, owned by Clint Johnson, which cost $960 back in the day. Johnson said "he became a Dell customer in 1985 because IBM's and Apple's computers were more expensive."

Johnson owned seven Dells throughout the years, but kept this old model because he figured it was a piece of PC history. Michael Dell, who was on hand to give the computer to the Smithsonian, didn't try to turn it on to see if it still worked. Heck, that's the first thing I'd try! The new Dell collection will be on temporary display in the museum's "Treasures of American History" exhibition at the National Air and Space Museum.

The Smithsonian also has an Altair computer, a TRS-80 Model 1, a first-generation IBM PC, an Apple Lisa Computer, and an original Apple Macintosh on display.

How to do this?

Open the Control Panel
double-click Mouse
select the Pointers tab
Next to Schemes, click the down arrow and select a scheme to preview its pointers
Click OK to apply the scheme to your desktop. Simple as that

At last one of my favorite browser is coming to windows, it's the safar 3.0 for windows!. Steve Jobs once said that iTunes on Windows was like “giving ice water to someone in hell”. Today, Apple is giving more ice water to the people of hell by releasing a public beta of Safari 3.0 to Windows users.

According to Apple, Safari 3.0 is 2 times faster than Internet Explorer and 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2 when loading pages. My experience say that this web browser is fast and is worth to try.

Improved inline find. When using the Find Command in Safari (cmd-f), a find bar will appear on top allowing you to enter your search term. When a matched text is found, Safari will dim the page and show the selected match with an orange background with white border.

Make sure you're access the "https" site
Choose bank who provide TOKEN RING for password to the transaction
Make sure you always clean up the private data after done with the transaction. It's easy to do this with Mozilla Firefox just press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL
DO NOT use public computer! eg. computer from internet cafe, if you must use another online service...

Dell Data Recovery

After having my Dell Latitude D620 running smooth with a clean installation of Windows XP Pro, I've just plan to use another laptop data recovery software. I'm still trying to get my old Dell Restore and Utilities partition on my hard disk. Previously I use the partition magic to make the FAT 16 and 32 partition then I use the Partition Recovery software to recover the lost partition. I use the clone to mother partition method because the lost partitions have overlaped the current partition. Still can get this thing work and still need help from Dell user just to get my original factory setting back to my laptop.

I've just got arived from windows shopping to one of the biggest mall in Jakarta. As I notice the computer store sell two different version of microsoft product, the boxed one(retail) and the OEM version. For me as a buyer I'll definetfly choose the OEM version, WHY?...it's all because the price factor. The OEM version of Windows Vista Business sell for only Rp. 1.800.000 but the retailversion of Windows Vista Home Edition is sell for Rp. 2.500.000. With that spread of price you can buy another Symantec Norton Anti Virus with one year subscription.
But remembering me as a perfectionist person so I will buy the boxed(retail) version no matter how...
Why don't they (software developer) make the cheaper version...

DDWIN.EXE SOLUTION

It's time to get rid the "very annoying ddwin.exe" error message!!!.

After google about ddwin.exe error message I finaly found how to get rid of this message. Here's how:

Make sure you have the genuine version of windows (in my case Windows XP - SP2)
Run all you windows update (Mine is 82 updates), restart after it's done.
The message should have disappeared when you complete the Windows Update.

If I known before about this thing I should still have my Dell System Recovery partition in may Dell Latitude D620 Notebook. A lesson tobe learn is - be patience read and gather all information when you're confronting some new serious problem. I skip that patience thing with Windows XP and I have to lose my DSR Partition. I miss my mac.

I finaly give up to the Dell System Recovery partition thing. I was trying to use the partition magic to make a new DELLRESTORE partition - a FAT32 partition,it works but when I try to use the Partition Recevery to recover a overlaped partition the partition I make is not even exist in the select menu for cloning the partition. And so I think maybe someday this will work, but for now I just clean install the Windows Xp sp 2 from Dell Recovery Disk - erasing my previous partition (the Utility and Restore partition) - I can use it for doing my project anyway - less the factory default reset option for sure, but I'll be very thankful if someone tell me the step by step guide for repairing this "ACCIDENTALLY ERASE DSR PARTITION PROBLEM". Thanks.

I accidentally delete my Dell Latitude D620 restore system partition when i try to reinstall my notebook with Windows XP. Now I work on resuming the partition that I delete with Norton Partition Magic 8.0 and Meetsoft Partition Recovery 2.0.2. Anyone have experience with this issue?

Desktop Shortcut Icons are accompanied by a shortcut arrow by default on Windows, and if you find them annoying and want to remove the shortcut arrow on icons, here’s what you have to do:

Go to Start >> Run
Type regedit.exe and hit enter
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Shell Icons. If this key doesn’t exist, create one.
Create a new string value under this key by right clicking and name it as 29
Set its value to C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,52
Close the Registry editor, and restart your computer for changes to take effect

After 2 hours browse the internet to find out how to get rid of the annoying message "dwwin.exe - dll initialization error..." I finally made it. It all because of the Internet Explorer 7.0, I follow the sugestion from developerfood.com, then I uninstall the Internet Explorer 7.0 with all its component, and the result : IT'S DISAPEAR!!!, thanks god. Now Im using Firefox as my internet browser it's faster but I have to use the IE if I want to run the diagnostic tools from Dell.

Error "dwwin.exe - DLL initialization faild" that's what it says, i've google this proble but the best result to fix this problem is to disable the report unless it get crucial. On 29th of June 2007, Apple has launch its fenomenal phone in the U.S. and like predicted before, it's sold out in a very short time. For the Asian countries it will be ship on 2008, a very long delayed shipment time I think. A few seller would take this time as a good oportunity for selling this item with high prices, usually they will doubled the price (eg. from USD 1000 become USD 2000). A very not reasonable price, but people will buy it for their prestige. For me? I'll wait for the official shipment in my country.
